12U West Pines Cobras are Champions at Cooperstown

Cooperstown, New York - On the week of June 16 -22, our local 12U West Pines Cobras youth baseball team competed in the prestigious 104 team Cooperstown Dreams Park National Invitational Tournament in Cooperstown NY where the Cobra squad made extraordinary achievements including securing a spot in the national championship game and being inducted in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame.

On the grueling road to the Championship game, the #4 seeded West Pines Cobras defeated in the single elimination playoff bracket the highly regarded teams: #36-Roswell Hornets Green (GA) 6-3 ,#20-Homer Heat (IL) 11-4, #12-Team Worth Florida (FL) 10-2 and  #16-ECB Select (GA) 15-3.

After a difficult 12-1 loss against the Cincy Flames (OH) in the title game, the Cobras head coach Carlos Perez was remarkably upbeat. “We won ten games in a row with exceptional pitching and outstanding hitting to make it to the final game. I am extremely proud of these boys on what they accomplished.” As he should be, the team recorded the only ten game winning streak, no-hitter, one-hitter, 31 homeruns and outlasted their opponents with cumulative score of 108-22.

West Pembroke Pines Optimist (WPPO) board member Daryl Perry commented “Great job to Coach Perez and the 12U team for their strong showing at Cooperstown Dreams Park. We should be proud as the local home grown boys represented Pembroke Pines and WPPO exceptionally well!”

Congratulations to the Cobra team: Kyle Acosta, Dion Borst, Michael Carroll, Tyler Evans, Al Ortiz, Arrison Perez, Ricky Presno, Isaac Quinones, Kevin Rodriguez, Carlos Salaverria, Christian Santana, and Trey Taliaferro. The team coaches are Carlos Perez, Ray Evans, Charles Taliaferro and Carlos Salaverria.
